The poachers had no idea that they were not alone. As they packed their kill they were not paying attention to their surroundings. Then suddenly the quietness of the forest broke with the growling of a large rogue bear bursting out of the bush. Hughie and Bow were just as shocked as the poachers and remained dead still in the bush so they would not to be detected. The poachers were so surprised they dropped everything and ran down the old trail forgetting all about their guns. Run, run, bears, bears! could be heard as they disappeared around the turn in the trail.
Bow said to Hughie, "Who is that, can you see, Hughie?
Hughie strained his eyes and then started laughing as he leapt out of the bush. Ruefus, you old son of a gun, where have you been the past year! The two bears ran towards each other, then reared on their hind legs and started to wrestle. Bow, who was more reluctant to come out of the bush, slowly made her way into the clearing. Hughie and Ruefus were too busy to notice Bow. They were so happy to see each other. The noise of the two bears wrestling was deafeningthe poachers would never return with this raucous.
