Excerpt: I couldn't stop. Becca would get lost in the huge crowd. As I ran around the corner there was a mix-up in the stands. Mom was trying to get out and after me, but Mr. Thompson had stood up and was blocking her way. Shirley, who was standing, was blocking his way. By the time they moved out to the aisle, and down to ground level, both Becca and I had disappeared. "What did you say to Becca to make her run away like that?" Mom asked Shirley, who started to cry, and could not say anything.
Then Mrs. Skinner tried to calm Shirley, but she kept wailing, and I guess my mother was just as upset. It must have been funny, and when I heard about it later I was sorry I had missed it. But at the time I was busy. I was looking for my little sister.
