'I've already been destroyed. I have very little to lose. Why did you just crush that exquisite model car?'
Williams turned scarlet and yelled, 'You tell me! You're so smart!'
'I'll tell you why. It's only a rumour. But you need my mother's land for an expansion. It's the middle ground, the most important piece of the puzzle, the keystone.'
'What puzzle?' demanded Williams.
'The Canal bypass was a phony smoke screen. Most speculators know that government involvement or expropriation means a capped profit, unless, you're one of the boys. Industrial expansion is another matter. It's ? you get what you can. You didn't want that, so the Stonebridge Canal bypass ploy. Dudley didn't know the real truth. You want some mighty irony. The Canal bypass is going through. If you get my land you will be sitting on the best piece of industrial land in the peninsula. For your expansion.'
'You don't know a damn thing.'
'Fine with me. I can sell the farm to whomever I please for a hell of lot more cash than you're offering me once I release the true facts. Do you want the real truth? Let's get off this useless bullshit debate. Listen, and listen carefully.
Beyond the Peat Marsh Road centers on the main character, Steven (Fekete) Black, a successful architect in Toronto who wishes to sell the family farm that his reclusive mother, Maria Fekete refuses to concede to the powerful industrialist, Don Williams.
Mysteriously a sudden interest emerges by land speculators for properties surrounding the polluted Fekete farm.
Black's second mission is to revenge all the old hurts suffered from bullying discrimination in his school years and the interference with his first love, Laura Dawson from his antagonists Lloyd Dudley, now the mayor, and Keith Majors, a prosperous contractor.
Steven meets with Frank Bartok, his cousin the lawyer; Stanley Cibik, a realtor and boyhood friend; and Ross Tyrone, a contractor who was a major force in his early life. Interviews reveal what molded Black into a cold, calculating enigma.
Black resolves to discredit his enemies and gain a profitable advantage over the manipulative Don Williams, the owner of Williams Steel.
A classic story of the meek triumphing over the strong!
