Our first stop was the Birds of Prey Center in the town of Coaldale. I found it on the map.
Mom had lent me her camera, so the first stop was at the desk to buy admittance tickets and a roll of film. John put it in the camera for me. Mom wanted me to take lots of pictures so she could see all the things we would see on our trip to Edmonton.
We arrived about five minutes before the first flying show starring a hawk named Yuma.
We sat on wooden seats and watched Yuma fly away, make a big circle, and then return to the padded arm of the man telling us about the hawk. A hawk is also called a raptor, which means a bird of prey. I always thought a raptor was a dinosaur.
The man said he would answer questions so I asked, ?Why doesn?t Yuma just keep flying? Why does the bird come back??
He laughed and said, ?I wasn?t going to tell you this, but when the hawk returns I feed it some raw meat. This is called ?conditioning? the bird so it knows it will get fed every time it returns to me.?

Brock and Becca travel to Edmonton from Medicine Hat in an RV, but not with their Mom and Dad. For the first time in their lives they are away from their parents for several days. They are with friends of the family and their parrot Pauli.
It is an exciting trip as they stop to see and do so many interesting things. They are attacked by hungry ducks, become spacemen for a little while, watch a buffalo hunt from long ago, touch dinosaurs, view many types of reptiles, and go back in time to village life.
Finally they join up with Mom and Dad for loads more family fun.
