Megan could taste blood and realized she had been biting her lips to ease the pain and frustration. Finally, with a small grunt, she cut through the last strand of rope. Then she froze as Charlotte pinned her to the cold cement with a look of contempt. Had Charlotte been waiting for her to finish cutting? Had she been watching all along, playing some macabre game? Megan?s held her breath as Charlotte got up off the barrel and walked over to her.
"You," Charlotte said, pointing one stiletto fingernail in Megan?s direction, "just stay put. I have to go outside for half a minute. Don?t try anything stupid! Hear me?"
Megan nodded. She sat quietly and counted to ten, barely allowing herself to breathe again. Then she shook her hands free and undid the knots around her ankles. The ropes were tight and harder to loosen than Megan had anticipated but she soon was on her feet, ready to bolt. If she could just find the door! But first?the Rock of Ages. Synopsis
